Origin of the Association

 

It was a long cherished ambition and aspiration of the campus community to have a common platform for the old students of the University Faculty students. Calicut University is one of the Premier Universities in the state of Kerala and have a glorious past, creating ever so many luminaries having National and international credentials and repute. It was quiet unfortunate that it had no platform for the old students, contributed for widening the glorious horizon of the university.

The encouragement and enthusiasm shown by the present Vice-Chancellor, Registrar and Dean of Students Welfare galvanized the process of streamlining an organization. The first Organizing committee meeting was held on 02-02-2008 at the Seminar Complex of the university. As many as 35 old students, who don’t like to remain as colossal residue, attended the meeting chaired by Prof. A.Achuthan. An ad-hoc committee was constituted consisting 15 members and resolved to form a formal organization. The ad-hoc committee meeting held on 12-02-08 at the Syndicate hall resolved to name the organization as “CALICUT UNIVERSITY CAMPUS ALUMNI ASSOCIATION” (CUCA).

On 22-02--08 the committee held its meeting and framed a steering committee with Dr.T.M.Vijayan, Adv.N.Aravindan, Mr.Abdul Latheef Naha, Dr.P.Mohan, Mr.M.V.Zakaria,  Dr.Geethakumari and Dr.M.Gokuldas as its members. The meeting discussed on having a proper Bye-Law and Adv.Aravindan was entrusted to prepare and present the bye-law.

On 28-03-08 the ad hoc committee decided to request the University to allot an office space for the organization. In the meeting it was also resolved to collect Rs.50/ as entrance fee, Rs.100/ as annual subscription, and Rs.1000/ for Life membership. It further decided to collect Rs,150/ - from ad-hoc committee members on an urgent footing to meet the immediate needs.

On 02-04-2008 the ad-hoc committee decided to accelerate momentum of membership campaign and special assignment was given to every members. It was decided to inform all principals of all affiliated colleges of the formation of the Alumni organization, in the meeting held on 29-04-08. On 03-06-08, the steering committee decided to convene a General body meeting on 05-07-08. The steering committee met on 26-06-08 to discuss on the agenda for the General body meeting. In the meeting it was decided to invite Hon. Vice-Chancellor to inaugurate the General Body meeting and Pro-Vice-Chancellor to forward the key note address and the Registrar to felicitate the occasion. 

On 05-07 -08 , the official session of the meeting commenced at 10 am at the Seminar complex. Chaired by Dr.TM.Vijayan, Mr. UV.Rajagopal welcomed the dignitaries and the members.  Adv.Aravindan presented the bye-law for discussion and approval. The bye-law was accepted and a formal executive committee and office bearers were elected and declared. The following persons were the office bearers and members of the first executive committee.

The inaugural session was presided over by Dr.TM.Vijayan.  Hon.Vice-Chancellor inaugurated the meeting and Pro-Vice Chancellor forwarded the key note address. The Registrar Dr.TK.Narayanan, Prof.Kesavan Veluthedath, Mr.Lohidakshan, Dr.Sekharan and Mr. UV.Rajagopalan felicitated the function.  It will be thankless from our part if we forget to mention the name of Mr. Pavithran, NAC Cell. From the first organizing committee meeting and till the formation of the Executive committee, his endeavor and interest was incomparable.
