The main objective of the College Development Council is to provide a focal point for the resolution of issues of the affiliated colleges. The Development Council consists of the Vice-Chancellor, the Director of the Council, a few principals of the affiliated colleges, three University teachers and two members of the Syndicate

Functions of the College Development Council

  1. The Council meets at regular intervals, at least twice in an academic year, to review the implementation of various programmes and activities in the colleges affiliated to the University.
  2. The Council serves as an academic guide to the college system on the one hand, and on the other hand, ensures continued inter-action between the academic faculties of the University departments and teachers of the affiliated colleges.
  3. The Director of the Council visits affiliated Colleges at least twice in a year to apprise them of the need for development of teaching and research utilizing the schemes sponsored by the UGC.
  4. The Director of the Council holds meetings of the College principals with a view to apprising them of the ways in which the Council can contribute for the overall development of education in Colleges. To fulfill the objective, the Council in consultation with the University bodies may:
    • advise the University on all matters relating to the provision of adequate physical and academic facilities in affiliated colleges, including periodic evaluation for enabling the University to maintain reasonable continuity of policy in regard to development of colleges;
    • prepare a perspective plan for the development and opening of new colleges and courses in emerging disciplines so as to enable the University and state education authority to take decisions on the planning and development of colleges;
    • evaluate and assess the impact of UGC grants utilized by the colleges for the implementation of various development projects.
    • ensure that the UGC grants released to University for disbursement among colleges are not held/ locked up or utilized by the University for its own purpose, and also ensure that these grants are properly and expeditiously disbursed to colleges for specified purposes according to the guidelines laid down by the Commission;
    • obtain from the colleges and furnish to the Commission utilization certificates and completion documents in respect of UGC grants released/disbursed; and
    • ensure close and continued contact and interaction between the academic faculties of the University teaching departments and the colleges.

 

Current Priorities of the Council
  1. Strengthening relations between the University and affiliated colleges
  2. Provide guidelines to the colleges for resolution of academic issues.
  3. Provide consultancy for NAAC accreditation.
  4. Provide a supporting system for training the middle management of affiliated colleges for greater efficiency and clarity.
  5. Provide leadership for collaborative effort on consultancy, research and publication.

Other assigned duties of the Council

  1. To process the proposals for assistance from UGC under the head of the Unassigned Grant.
  2. To scrutinize the applications for Fellowship/Assistance/Support from the Govt. and other non-Governmental agencies.
  3. To coordinate the work of the Research Council of the University at different levels, Viz. Registration and Evaluation.
  4. To process the nominations for Prof. M.M.Ghani Award for the best Teacher in the affiliated colleges of the University.
  5. Management of the University Guest House.
