EMS Chair for Marxian Studies and Research
The chair was instituted by the University of Calicut on 20th April 2000 to honour late E.M.S. Namboodiripad and encourage and undertake studies in Marxian Philosophy and Literature.

Chair for Maritime Studies and Research
Inaugurated on Saturday, October 16, 2004 by Admiral Arun Prakash, PVSM, AVSM, VrC, VSM, ADC, Chief of Naval Staff. The academic focus of the Chair would be the promotion of Maritime Studies. The main focus would be on inter-disciplinary research programmes relating to history, political institutions, foreign policies, strategic issues, ecology and environment, social, economic and cultural development of the coastal states of India and the littoral states of the Indian Ocean. Priority would be given to India's relations with the littoral states of Indian Ocean and the problems faced by the Indian minority groups in these countries.

Chair for Christian Studies and Research
The main objectives of the Chair for Christian Studies and Research are: (1). To initiate research in the educational field in order to widen the horizon so as to make it an effective instrument for social changes and national development. (2). To promote research in philosophy in all its various branches like metaphysics, scripture, religion, ethics and arts. (3). To study Christianity with comparative study of other religions such as Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism and Islam, as well as other isms, such as Marxism, and Rationalism. (4). To embark on a wide-ranging educational effect to add to the knowledge and appreciation of Christian heritage in the country.

Islamic Chairs
The Chair was established at the University of Calicut in 1988 with the support of Federation of Muslim Colleges. Now it is functioning as a common platform for intellectuals, social engineers, and community leaders who are interested in the study of Islam. The driving force of the academic pursuit of the Chair is the concept that cross-cultural sharing of knowledge has a vital role in the social integration and communal harmony of the country.
