HIMALAYAN MOUNTAINS OF INDIA |
SYNOPSIS |
An illustrated talk covering the Indian Himalayan range from Arunachal Pradesh Himalaya in the east to the Karakoram in the west. It covers climbing, wars in Arunachal and the Siachen and people of the Himalaya. The high beautiful mountains have history of climbing, exploration and people amongst them. The beautiful valleys and people living in them make for a grand setting. The talk also presents visits to the Siachen Glacier, where India, Pakistan and China are engaged in hostilities for decades. It considers Indian Army in action, roles of young soldiers and costs they pay to keep this war going. Proposal for a "SiachenPeacePark" is made to Stop this conflict. The talk is based on Harish Kapadia's 45 years of exploring the range, to all different parts of the Himalaya Mountains of India. It considers history of climbing, personalities, his expeditions and adventures, explorations and problems faced by the range, including in the Siachen glacier, and offers suggestions for its preservation. |
