MSc Health Sciences Courses

            The University of Calicut offers the following Post Graduate Courses in Health Sciences since the year 2000 at the School of Health Sciences. The Administrative office is located in the Calicut University Campus, Thenhipalam, Malappuram. The institution as like any other cost based centre is developed without state subsidy as a fully Self Financed Centre for advanced learning. At present the School offers three PG programmes under Medical faculty. The courses are designed to develop necessary professional skill to the students in the respective specialized area and to equip themselves to carryout the clinical test/diagnosis independently in medical and allied field. Besides, the School also offers PG Programme in Food Science and Technology under faculty of Science with the aim of imparting necessary skills to the students in food processing and quality control.

Courses offered :-

a). MSc MEDICAL BIOCHEMISTRY.

Duration                      : Two year (4 Semesters)

Sanctioned strength : 20 + 3 NRI seats

Mode of Selection   : On the basis of the marks obtained by the candidate in the qualifying examination.

Fee Structure          : Tuition fee – Rs.23,000/- per semester

                                    Admission Fee – Rs.5000/-

                                    Refundable Caution Deposit – Rs.30,000/-


Eligibility                : Pass in a four year BSc Medical Biochemistry examination of Univeristy of Calicut with minimum of 50% marks or qualification recognized equivalent thereto. In the absence of the above, candidates who have passed three year BSc Biochemistry/BSc Chemistry Degree examination with 50% marks from University of Calicut or a qualification recognized as equivalent thereto can also seek admission. For such candidates the course duration will be three years.


 

 

 

 

b). MSc MEDICAL MICROBIOLOGY.

Duration                     : Two year (4 Semesters)

Sanctioned strength : 20 + 3 NRI seats

Mode of Selection   : On the basis of the marks obtained by the candidate in the qualifying examination.

Fee Structure            : Tuition fee – Rs.23,000/- per semester

                                      Admission Fee – Rs.5000/-

                                      Refundable Caution Deposit – Rs.30,000/-


Eligibility                 : Pass in a four year BSc Medical Microbiology examination of Univeristy of Calicut with minimum of 50% marks or qualification recognized equivalent thereto. In the absence of the above, candidates who have passed three year BSc Microbiology /BSc Botany/Zoology Degree examination with 50% marks from University of Calicut or a qualification recognized as equivalent thereto can also seek admission. For such candidates the course duration will be three years.


c). MSc MEDICAL LABORATORY TECHNOLOGY.

Duration                          : Two year (4 Semesters)

Sanctioned strength : 20 + 3 NRI seats (specializations:- Biochemistry, Microbiology and Immunology, Haematology and Transfusion Technology, Cytology and Cytogenetics – 5 seats each).

Mode of Selection         : On the basis of the marks obtained by the candidate in the qualifying examination.


Fee Structure                : Tuition fee – Rs.23,000/- per semester

                                          Admission Fee – Rs.5000/-

                                          Refundable Caution Deposit – Rs.30,000/-

Eligibility                    : Pass in a four year BSc Medical Laboratory Technology examination of Univeristy of Calicut with minimum of 50% marks or qualification recognized equivalent thereto. In the absence of the above, candidates who have passed three year BSc Medical Laboratory Technology or BSc with 2 year Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology (DMLT) with 50% marks and 5 years experience in Government or other recognized Medical Laboratory can seek admission (5 students each can opt for any one of the specialization during the course. If more than 5 students opt for a single option election will be made on the basis of the marks secured in the 1st semester MSc Examinations.


 

 

 

d). MSc FOOD SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY.

Duration                     : Two year (4 Semesters)

Sanctioned strength : 26 + 3 NRI seats.

Mode of Selection : On the basis of the marks obtained in the qualifying examination of the candidate to the 50% seats under Non Entrance stream. For the other 50% seats admission will be on the basis of the Entrance Test.


Fee Structure           : Tuition fee – Rs.23,000/- per semester

                                    Admission Fee – Rs.5000/-

                                    Refundable Caution Deposit – Rs.30,000/-


Eligibility               : Pass in BSc Food Science and Technology examination of Univeristy of Calicut for the 50% of seats reserved for BSc Food Science and Technology students for which selection is made on the basis of the marks obtained in the qualifying Examinations. (Non Entrance Scheme).

Selection for the remaining 50% seats of the course will be on the basis of entrance test (Eligibility : A Pass in any BSc Degree approved by the University with 50% marks in part III optional with mathematics as one of the subject at Plus Two or BSc level).


Theory and Practical classes on the topic “Food Engineering” (I and II Semesters) of the programme will be conducted at any Engineering College outside the Campus (presently conducted at the Govt. Engineering College, Calicut)


Theory and Practical classes on the topic “Technology of Food Meat and Poultry Products” (III Semester) of the programme will be conducted at an outside Centre (presently conducted at National Institute of Fisheries Post Harvest Technology and Training (NIFPHATT)
