                  COMMUNITY DISABILITY MANAGEMENT AND REHABILITATION PROGRAMME

                                                                                                            (CDMRP)

 
(CDMRP is a joint project of Department of psychology, University of Calicut & Social Justice Department, Govt. Of Kerala)
 
Over the past three decades, Department of Psychology, University of Calicut has been one of the premier institutes to provide university level training programs and advanced researches in the area of psychology and developmental disabilities. In addition to regular teaching and research activities, the department has been conducting a massive project- Community Disability Management and Rehabilitation Program (CDMRP), with the financial support of Social Justice Department, Government of Kerala.
 
VISION OF CDMRP
 
A centre of excellence for empowerment of persons with disabilities through community based Disability management services, Studies and Research, which strives to create a new social order which facilitate equal opportunities and full participation for the persons with disabilities in all spheres of life”.
 
MISSION OF CDMRP
 
To provide comprehensive community based a disability management service which facilitates recovery empowerment, equal opportunities and full participation of persons with disabilities and their families and also to build human resources to fulfill current and potential need in the areas of disability and rehabilitation.
 
OBJECTIVES OF CDMRP

  1. To provide advanced community based disability management services to person with disabilities at free of cost (including Prevention, Early Intervention, Treatment and Psychosocial Rehabilitation)
  2. To establish Community disability management Clinics in rural Kerala with the support from LSG bodies ( (Approximately 16 to 20 clinics)
  3. To act as an authentic platform for conducting needs based training and advanced researches in the areas of community based disability management and rehabilitation .
  4. To provide advanced training (academic) of human resources to fulfil current and the potential requirements in the areas of disability and psychosocial rehabilitation.
  5. To conduct Public awareness and sensitizing programs about various disability issues to promote an inclusive and empowering environment for persons with disabilities.
  6. To work as a nodal center to conduct and coordinate various training research projects under national and international agencies particularly Ministry of Social Justice, NRHM, DME, ICMR,ICSSR, UGC RCI, NIMH, WHO etc.

  1. As a part of CDMRP, a total of three Community based Disability Management Clinics have been established in three rural villages of Kozhikode and Malappuram districts with support from LSG bodies and an Advanced disability management center has been established in the university campus with state of the art facilities for early identification and disability management services.
  2. Through these centers, the CDMRP clinical team provide regular advanced community based disability management and rehabilitation services to children with developmental disabilities at free of cost (including, Prevention, Early Intervention, Treatment and Psychosocial Rehabilitation
  3. Apart from clinical activities, CDMRP regularly conducts advanced training in all areas of disability management for various levels of Professional and community volunteers. CDMRP also undertakes more than 11 needs based research projects in the area of developmental disabilities.
  4. More importantly, from the current academic year under CDMRP , Department has started Advanced Professional Courses in the area of Rehabilitation Psychology(i.e., Post Graduate Diploma in Rehabilitation Psychology, PGDRP), which is recognized by the Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI)
