Immediately after M.Sc., joined TIFR and was a research scientist there for 16 years. Later, joined the Bombay University as a professor of mathematics in December 1990.

Member of the National Board for Highr Mathematics, an apex body for the development of mathematics (under the aegis  Department of Atomic Energy) from 2002.
Visited /held positions at Leading instituions in the world such as the
Institute for Advanced Study (Princeton), ICTP ( Triste, Italy), Steklov
Institute ( St. Petersburg, Russia) and various institutions in India.

Written 5 books so far, starting from B.Sc. to Research level.

Was awarded C.L. Chandna award for Excellence in Teaching and Research
in Mathematics by McGill University, Canada in the year 1998.

Was elected to be a member of the Executive Committee of International
Commission for Mathematics Instruction in the International Conference of
Mathematicians, held recently in Spain in recognition of organizing summer camps for college and University students for the last 14 years.
Has been organizing summer programme, called Mathematics Training and
Talent Search Programme (MTTS)  for students of mathematics at the college and university level, at different parts of the country for the last 14 years. The Indian National Science Academy nominated him for a membership of the Executive Committee of ICMI. In a recently held meeting at Madrid, Spain, he was elected as a member of the Executive Committee.
