Professional Biography

Dr. K.S. Pavithran is currently Professor and Head, Department of Political Science, School of Social Sciences, University of Calicut. He has also been Dirctor of K.M. Centre for West Asian Studies and Indian Ocean Studies, University of Calicut. Dr. Pavithran did his Post Graduation in Political Science from the University of Kerala from which University he also took his M.Phil and Ph.D Degrees. Spanning an official career of over 36 years, he has published three books and contributed serveral articles in reputed journals and edited volumes. He has participated and presented papers several National and International Seminars and Workshops. His areas of research include Political Theory and Ideologies, Secularism and Multiculturalism, Indian Political Process, and India's Foreign Policy.

Dr. Pavithran is the General Editor of the ISDA Journal: Studies in Development and Public Policy, National Editorial Board Member of International Journal of Political Science, Member Editorial Advisory Board, South Asian Journal of Socio - Political Studies and Editorial Board Member, Puthuvazhi the quarterly Journal of Pratheeksha Trust. He is in the Advisory Committee of UGC- Nehru Studies Centre, University of Kerala, C. Achutha Menon Centre for Study and Research, Thrissur, Moulana Abul Kalam Azad Chair, and UGC Centre for Indian Ocean Studies, University of Calicut and Coordinator, Chair for Maritime History of South India, University of Calicut. He has served as a Member of the Governing Council of the Kerala State Higher Education Council during 2008-2012.
