The University of Calicut through its various Self Financing Centres offers diversified courses at Graduate and Post Graduate level under cost based scheme. In the beginning considering the acute shortage of Trained Teachers, B.Ed Degree Course was started. Later inorder to cater to the needs of the student community and the region more and more new generation courses were also started under the scheme. At present with its as many as 35 Centres spreading over the districts of Palakkad, Malappuram, Thrissur, Kozhikode and Wayanad, it has been possible to impart quality education in various disciplines to thousands of aspirants at moderate and reasonable rate of fee and also to redress, to a great extent the regional imbalance exists in the field of higher education.

The University has instituted a Directorate to look after the administrative and academic functions of these Centres and courses under the control of the Director. Dr.K.Sivarajan, Head of the Department of Lifelong Learning and Extension is the present Director.
