Ginger House | | Department of Botony, | | University of Calicut | | | | The Ginger House was constructed in the Calicut University Botanical Garden with the financial assistance from BGCI, HSBC through NBRI and a matching contribu tion from the University of Calicut. This was built on as a part of the project under Dr. M. Sabu, entitled “Additions to the existing Zingiberaceae Collection of Calicut University Botanical Garden”,for the conservation of Indian | | | gingers.for the conservation of Indian gingers. This home presently holds more than 70% Indian gingers that is about 140 species for all over India including Andaman & Nicobar islands. The exotic gingers from Thailand, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Bangladesh are also grown here. Many members under cultivation are endemic and endangered in their natural habitats. | | |
