This was built on as a part of the project under Dr. M. Sabu, entitled “Additions to the existing Zingiberaceae Collection of Calicut University Botanical Garden”,for the conservation of Indian

gingers.for the conservation of Indian gingers. This home presently holds more than 70% Indian gingers that is about 140 species for all over India including Andaman & Nicobar islands. The exotic gingers from Thailand, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Bangladesh are also grown here. Many members under cultivation are endemic and endangered in their natural habitats.
