Synopsis

In this lecture Ramachandra Guha argues that in a complex society like India democracy is inseparable from pluralism. He focuses on three kinds of pluralism in particular: the pluralism of faith, the pluralism of language, and the pluralism of knowledge. He shall assess independent India's failures and successes in these spheres.
